1. Promote your LearnEd profile

Promote your LearnEd profile to friends and family, on social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Youtube. We've put together a comprehensive guide here on how to promote your profile.

If you haven't set up your LearnEd profile yet, you can keep reading for tips on how to get this done.

2. Upload a headshot photo

Creating a compelling profile, including a professional headshot, is crucial for tutors, especially in the online education sector. A good profile photo can make a tutor seem more approachable, trustworthy, and professional, which can significantly impact a potential student's decision to choose their services. Here are some tips for tutors looking to upload an effective profile headshot photo:

Choose the right environment that is well lit with natural light and a simple, clean and uncluttered background such as a plain wall or a setting that isn't distracting. Dress professionally, wear clothes that you might wear to a tutoring session or a casual meeting. Solid colours often work better than busy patterns.

Ensure your face is the focal point of the shot. If not, try cropping or retaking the photo. Aim for a friendly and approachable expression. A genuine smile can go along way in making you seem welcoming to potential students.

Ensure the photo is high resolution and not pixelated. A blurry or low-quality image can seem unprofessional.

Keep your profile photo updated. If your appearance changes significantly, take a new photo so students can easily recognize you.

3. Include a Biographic video

Begin by introducing yourself, including your name and your role as a tutor. A warm, friendly greeting can set a positive tone for the rest of the video. Briefly outline your educational background, qualifications, and any certifications relevant to the subjects you tutor. Highlight your experience and achievements in education.

Explain Your Teaching Philosophy

Discuss your approach to tutoring and your teaching philosophy. Explain how you engage with students and adapt your methods to fit their individual needs and learning styles.

Highlight Your Specializations & Success Stories

Mention any specific subjects or areas you specialize in, especially those in high demand. If you have expertise in a niche area, make sure to highlight it.

Without violating privacy, share general success stories or outcomes from your tutoring, such as helping students achieve their academic goals or overcome challenges. Students and parents love hearing these before booking a trial.

Demonstrate Your Passion for Teaching

Let your enthusiasm for education and helping students learn shine through. Passion is contagious and can be a significant factor in a student's choice of tutor.

Pay Attention to Video Quality

Ensure the video is high quality. Use a good camera, make sure the lighting is flattering, and the audio is clear. Avoid background noise and distractions.

Edit for Clarity and Length

Keep the video concise, ideally between 1-3 minutes. Edit out any unnecessary parts to maintain the viewer's attention. End the video with a nice thank you and call to action.

Include a Call to Action

Encourage viewers to book a session with you or to contact LearnEd for more information. We can put the student in touch with you. Make it clear and easy for them to take the next step: complete the LearnEd enquiry form a note my name down as your preferred tutor.

4. Create a Written Biography

Creating an effective tutor biography requires a blend of professionalism, personality, and clarity. Here are streamlined tips for drafting a compelling bio:

Strong Introduction

Start with your name, professional title (e.g., "Experienced Math and Science Tutor"), and a sentence expressing your passion for teaching.

Qualifications and Experience

Summarize your educational background, certifications, subjects scores and tutoring experience, emphasizing years in the field and specialties.

Teaching Philosophy

Briefly describe your tutoring approach, how you adapt to different learning styles, and what makes your sessions effective.

Specializations

Highlight your expertise in specific subjects or services (e.g., test prep, study skills coaching).

Share examples of how you've helped students improve, keeping details anonymous.

Personal Touch

Mention relevant personal interests or hobbies to make your bio more relatable.

Support for Students

Outline the extra support you offer, like personalized learning plans, diagnostic testing, setting homework, creating practice exams or other valuable content a student might benefit from.

Call to Action

Encourage readers to contact you or book a session with a welcoming invitation. If you offer a free trial, mention that here!

Proofread and Update

Ensure your bio is error-free and regularly updated with any new qualifications or experiences.

5. Offer a free trial for new students

LearnEd tutors can offer their first lesson as a free trial to new students. This will help the student get to know you and see if you will be able to help them on their learning journey, without any financial commitment.

6. Subject selection

Choose subjects that you have achieved well in, that you enjoy teaching, have tutored before and have access to teaching resources for. Feel free to browse LearnEd's teaching resources, or obtain your own resources in the subjects that would like to teach.

7. Set your availability and capacity

Let students know what days and times you are available to teach on a regular basis. Pick timeslots that you are regularly free each week. Your capacity also lets our scheduling system know how many students you would like to have before you are full. We will allocate students to you based on your availability, so it is a great idea to regularly review your availability and capacity every 4 weeks to ensure it is accurate. If you haven't updated your availability for a while, you may not be prioritised for students.
